Officer Bitten and Injured by Suspect

Early Friday morning, March 19, 2010, at about 3:44 am, Officers were called to the scene of a solo vehicle collision on Tyler Avenue at Live Oak Avenue. A lone male driver had collided with a pole and was acting aggressively toward firefighters on scene telling them that he wanted to die. Attempts were made to calm the driver who became more agitated and then fought with Officers. At some point in the struggle, the driver bit an Officer on the forearm and head butted him causing a laceration. The driver was ultimately taken into custody after a taser was used by Officers.  He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. During the investigation, the driver was found to have been drinking and that he had also ingested a number of prescription pills. The Officer was also treated at a local hospital.
