Fireworks stands will soon be popping up in some surrounding communities. We would like to remind everyone, use or possession of any form of fireworks is illegal in the City of Arcadia. In addition to our officers watching for violations, the Arcadia Fire Department will also have area patrols through the 4th of July holiday. Violations may result in arrest or citation, and seizure of all fireworks.

The best and safest source of 4th of July entertainment can be found at a professional fireworks show. The Patch recently ran an informative article with many shows listed throughout Los Angeles County. Be safe and enjoy the show!

Weekly Tip - Keep Your Dog Safe on the Road!

We want to remind you that it can be unlawful, and moreover hazardous, to transport any animal or dog in the open bed of a truck or pick-up.  California Vehicle Code section 23117 specifies the animal must be contained or cross tethered to prevent their falling, jumping, or being thrown from the vehicle.  See the link for other language and mandates in the code section.  There are some exceptions, such as in farming or rural areas.

The ASPCA also offers tips on car travel with your pet, along with a printable version on their website.

Remember these laws are in place and the tips offered to help keep your pet and all traveling public safe.

Arrests of Interest - Residential Burglary

Within the last few weeks, Arcadia Police Officers have taken multiple suspects into custody for felony charges including suspicion of residential burglary. This post serves as a reminder for all to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as soon as you see it! If You See Something, Say Something.

On Wednesday evening this week, Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Arbolada on the report of a possible burglary in progress. The Officers quickly detained one suspect to the front of the home waiting inside a car. They found the home was burglarized through a smashed window and immediately set up a containment in the neighborhood. Ultimately, 3 of 4 suspects were taken into custody. Burglary tools, cash, and jewelry were found inside the suspect's car. A 21-year-old man from Highland, a 20-year-old female and a 22-year-old man, both from San Bernardino, were all arrested and booked at the Arcadia City Jail.

In two separate incidents in early June, Arcadia Patrol Officers found two suspicious vehicles in residential areas where the drivers of each vehicle chose to flee when the Officers attempted to pull them over. Each incident led to a short pursuit and ultimately the arrest of two men. A stolen handgun was recovered in the first incident and items taken in a previous Arcadia residential burglary were found in the second.

During the morning hours on June 2nd, Officers tried to stop a car for a traffic violation in the area of Colorado and Old Ranch. The driver failed to yield and tossed a handgun out the window as he fled. The driver stopped a short time later, was detained and found to be on Probation (Post-Release Community Supervision). The handgun was recovered and Officers learned the weapon had been reported stolen. Antonio L. Dismuke, a 27-year-old man from Los Angeles, was arrested on a number of felony charges including Felon in Possession of a Firearm, narcotics charges, and evading. Dismuke was booked at the Arcadia City Jail.

On June 4th, an Officer noticed a suspicious vehicle with no license plates in the residential area of Altura and Columbia. When the Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled leading the Officer on a short pursuit. The driver attempted a turn and collided with a building on Rosemead Blvd. The driver and passenger then fled on foot. With the assistance of outside police agencies, an airship, and a police K-9, the driver was found a short time later. The passenger was not found. Inside the suspect vehicle, Officers found property taken in a previous Arcadia residential burglary a couple days prior. The driver, Deandre D. Macintosh Jr, a 22-year-old man from Rialto, was arrested on felony charges including Evading and Residential Burglary. Macintosh was booked at the Arcadia City Jail.

Weekly Tip - Don't Let Your Newspapers and Mail Pile Up!

A sure way to let folks know you are away from home is to allow newspapers or mail to accumulate on your driveway or in your mailbox.  Whether you are going away for just a day or going on vacation for a week, it is a good practice to place a "hold" on your mail and newspaper delivery while you are gone.  Making your home looked "lived in" is a good crime prevention tool.  Another option is to ask your house or pet-sitter to remove door hanger advertisements, the paper, and your mail.

The postal service (USPS) offers online notification for mail "hold" requests.  Check out their site HERE.  Contact your individual newspaper provider for steps to temporarily stop service while you are away.

These are a few simple ideas to help you become less of a target to a thief.  Remember to be proactive in crime prevention!
