Drivers attempting to travel on Santa Anita Avenue were inconvenienced for about 3 hours yesterday due to a gas leak that forced the closure of the roadway. Arcadia Police Officers and Fire Fighters were called to the 2000 block of South Santa Anita Avenue at about 11:45 am after a construction crew ruptured an underground gas line while digging. The crew was related to the roadway construction project along Santa Anita Avenue, contracted by the City. Several homes were evacuated as a precaution and traffic was diverted at Longden Avenue to the south and Wistaria Avenue to the north. The roadway was reopened shortly before 3:00 pm. Thanks to several members of the Arcadia Police Volunteers in Patrol Services (VIPS) for assisting with the traffic control. The VIPS are a great asset to the Department and respond in situations like this to free up our Patrol resources.
