Business Alert - Phony Fire Inspectors

In November, The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office issued a "Consumer Alert" regarding persons posing as Fire Inspectors targeting business locations throughout the State and County.  The Arcadia Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, forwarded this information to the community on several platforms, like that of Nixle and Facebook.

Local businesses in Arcadia were targeted last week, primarily in the downtown area, and we would like to remind our business community to be alert for this type of scam.

In the Arcadia incidents, a man dressed in a blue uniform or jumpsuit with the name "AMG" or "AMG Fire Service" on the clothing, entered the businesses and said he was there to inspect the fire sprinkler system on behalf of the Arcadia Fire Department.  The phony inspector was unable to provide business cards or legitimate contact information at the time and was sent away from the business.  In another incident, the suspect performed an "inspection" and alleged violations to the employee.  The business received a bill in the mail the following day for the alleged inspection service.  The phony inspector was described as a light-skinned male, 6'00"/200 lbs, dark hair, 40-60 years old.

Businesses are encouraged to remain alert for this type of scam and to call the police should anyone other than a uniformed, Arcadia Fire Department employee, make any attempt to perform inspections or other related service.  Our AFD personnel are uniformed, carry identification, and can be verified by calling AFD at (626)574-5100.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5150.  You can also submit crime tips and information via text, phone, or web to LA Regional Crime Stoppers, 800-222-TIPS (8477), or by clicking on the "Submit a Tip" button on the APD Blog side bar.

  1. This is an alligation not a conviction. This statement contains no truth whatsoever. I am very disappointed in our judicial system for slandering good peoples names without facts. I am aware that there are people who do scam companies but AMG Fire is not one of them. Please remove such vicious accusations and find the real company that is scamming. God Bless you.

    1. The word is ALLEGATION ... not only did you spell it wrong but you are incorrect in its usage as these accusations are confirmed and well documented. Alligation is a method of solving arithmetic problems related to mixtures of ingredients.

  2. The positive comment above is from the company itself trying to deter all negative comments such as the ones on Yelp and other google searches. For sure it's a scam as I was a victim myself. God Bless You....what a joke this company is...

  5. We just had a visit from them in Baldwin Park. The receptionists had allowed them in the building. Once we found them we told them to leave. Scary!

  6. I work Security for the Shoppes in Chino Hills. They were on site yesterday (February 22nd 2012). Today, I am sending out a memo to all merchants, as well as referring this to my Branch Manager to pass out to all out clients and Security Officers.

  7. They were jus at our assoctiaon in Chino today and this was sent by our management comapny XXXX Association did not send out AMG Fire Service to inspect your fire sprinklers. I just received a call from a member onsite, stating that this company is at their location right now. I wanted to make you aware of the fact that we’ve read & heard negative, scam related reviews about them on yelp, although each owner is free to move forward as they see fit

  8. This company's practices are criminal. They need to be stopped.
They posed as if sent in by the city for an "inspection", a few weeks later we were sent an invoice for over $400.
    For shame.
