APD Suspends Online Identity Theft Reporting

Identify Theft knows no jurisdictional boundaries.  The Arcadia Police Department processes many reports of suspected Identity Theft throughout the year.  Most of the cases involve an unknown suspect and most victims are at a loss in knowing how or when their personal information was compromised.  Our Fraud investigators work in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, as well as the banking and credit industry, in continuous efforts to prosecute suspects in these crimes or refer the case to an appropriate jurisdiction, and to combat trends in fraud related crime.

One method of abuse by those persons cheating the system is to take advantage of “Online” police reporting platforms, filing Identity Theft reports in an effort to clear credit after filing a “police report”.  Current procedures for online reporting allow for possible manipulation of information and lack of proper verification when filing a report.

The Arcadia Police Department has decided to suspend the acceptance of online or phone Identity Theft reports.  We will gladly document Identity Theft reports in person at our station or through a call for service to our Dispatch Center, 626.574.5123, handled by an officer.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in our efforts to continuously evaluate our service delivery and service platforms.
