Wall of Honor and Department Awards

For many years, plaques with the names of those recognized with Department Awards were placed inside a dusty display case or found on a wall in various places within our building. In an effort to highlight the dedicated, professional, and courageous work men and women of the Arcadia Police Department have been doing for nearly a century, newly designed plaques have been prominently placed on the atrium wall inside the Department. Those members of the Department who have been recognized over the years, and in the future, will have their names mounted on the plaques. Our Department Awards include: The Medal of Valor, The Medal of Distinction, The Medal of Merit, and The Life Saving Award. A recent addition to the Department Awards is The Purple Heart, acknowledging those who have been seriously injured during the course of their duties. Newly designed plaques for Officer of the Year and Civilian of the Year will be mounted soon.

The APD atrium is now host to photos of past Chiefs of Police, photos documenting a Century of Service, our Department Awards, and a memorial honoring Officer Albert E. Matthies, the only member of APD to have been killed in the line of duty.

Weekly Tip - Disabled on the Freeway? Dial 5-1-1.

You may have noticed their white tow trucks and service vehicles on Los Angeles County Freeways, but how do obtain service? Metro Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) is available during most commute hours in LA County and can be reached by dialing 5-1-1 and selecting "Motorist Aid" during the call. FSP services are free and include changing flat tires, jump-starts, towing disabled vehicles safely off the freeway, and even emergency gas. Take a look at the FSP webpage for additional information and hours of operation.

Remember, always pull out or traffic when possible. If you are involved in a minor collision, pull to the shoulder to look at damage or exchange information.

Welcome 4 New Explorers to APD Law Enforcement Explorer Post 101

Four young men and women graduated from the San Gabriel Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Academy yesterday, becoming members of Arcadia PD's Law Enforcement Explorer Post #101. The Explorer academy is a shortened version of a Police/Sheriff Academy class, geared toward introducing young people to the career of law enforcement.

Retired APD Chief Bob Sanderson, pictured with each of the Explorers, has been and continues to be a key member of the SGV Academy, mentoring and influencing countless young people over the years. Pictured clockwise from top left are: Nick Marshall, Yulissa Hernandez, Ryan Harada, and Simran Gurayia. Explorer Marshall was awarded the 2nd Place trophy for his Academy Notebook.

Congrats and welcome to APD!

2016 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an annual event where Law Enforcement throughout the world run with the "Flame of Hope" bringing awareness and support to Special Olympics. The Arcadia Police Department is proud to participate in the event, taking the hand-off of the torch near Huntington Drive and Fifth Avenue from the Monrovia Police Department. Our personnel carry the torch west on Huntington Drive, south on Santa Anita Avenue, and turn west on Las Tunas Drive, ultimately handing off the torch to Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Temple Station, near Baldwin Avenue.

The torch reached Arcadia at about 11:15 am this morning where members of APD/APOA carried on this tradition for a very worthy cause.  Thanks to all our runners and support personnel for their participation! Take a look at the APD Facebook Page for additional photos.
