Robbery Victims Returning from Highland Casino Confronted in Garage
Two women returned to an Arcadia home early this morning from the San Manuel Casino in Highland and were confronted inside the garage by two suspects. One suspect threatened the women with a knife while the second suspect took a purse and cash from inside the victim's car.
The crime occurred this morning shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the 200 block of El Dorado Street in Arcadia.
The victims described the first suspect as a male, African-American, 25-35 years old, 5'-07"/180 lbs. The second suspect was described as a male, Hispanic, also 25-30 years old, 6'00"/200 lbs., with black hair. The suspects drove away eastbound on El Dorado in a copper colored, 2-door, Honda Accord.
This case is a good reminder for everyone to "check your mirrors" and to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you happen to see, or suspect, someone is following you, call 9-1-1 and report what is happening to law enforcement. Continue driving until told otherwise by a Dispatcher. If you stop, make sure the location is well lighted and very public, like an open convenience store, open gas station, or preferably, a local police or sheriff's station.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Arcadia Police Department at 626.574.5150. You can also submit anonymous tips and information via text, phone, or web to LA Regional Crime Stoppers, at 800.222.TIPS (8477), or texting "TIPLA"to CRIMES (274637), or by clicking the tip button on the Blog sidebar. Phone Scam Continues to Prey on So Cal Edison Customers
In March of 2013, APD posted a warning about a recurring phone scam targeting customers of Southern California Edison (SCE). Typically, a scammer calls and demands immediate payment for an alleged "past due" SCE account and says the power will be shut-off unless the victim sends immediate payment. The calls have targeted both residential and business customers, usually demanding payment of between $800-$1000. Over this past weekend, APD took two similar reports at local businesses in Arcadia. Neither business fell to the scam and no bogus payments were made.
Please see the SCE warning bulletin on this type of scam HERE. The bulletin is available in several different languages, including Chinese (公共事業帳單詐騙繼續瞄準Southern California Edison客戶).
From SCE: “We ask our customers to be alert to these calls that demand immediate payment and threaten service disconnection,” said Marlyn Denter, SCE consumer affairs manager. “Customers suspecting a fraudulent call should ask for the caller’s name, department and business phone number. If the caller refuses to provide this information, customers should terminate the call and report the incident immediately to local police or SCE at 800-655-4555.”
