Halloween Safety Tips

The Arcadia Police Department wants everyone to have a fun, but safe Halloween.  Here are some simple tips to make your Halloween fun and safe:
  • Plan your route ahead of time.
  • Trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods.
  • Carry a flashlight with new batteries after dark.
  • Always trick or treat in groups with an adult.
  • Stay on sidewalks, use crosswalks, and remember to walk, not run.
  • Walk with your head up and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Only visit well lit houses.
  • Don’t enter any houses unless you know the people.
  • Don’t approach unfamiliar pets and animals.
  • Don’t cut across yards and stay out of backyards.
  • Always watch for cars backing up or turning.
  • Don’t eat any candy until it has been inspected by an adult.
  • Avoid candy that is homemade, has puncture holes, has loose wrappers or is unwrapped.
  • Wear a costume that is visible to others, light colored, or reflective.
  • If a mask is worn, make sure it has large enough eye holes to see out of.  Also, consider removing the mask before crossing or entering the street.

Halloween 2014 falls on a Friday so we also want to remind drivers that it is never safe to drink and drive, but especially on Halloween night.  There will be a lot of little ghosts and ghouls out looking for Trick-or-Treats.   We hope these tips will help everyone have a safe and fun night.
