The Arcadia Police Department will be out in force looking for impaired drivers. Members of the department will conduct DUI Saturation Patrols in the City of Arcadia during the evening hours of Friday, December 12^th and Saturday, December 13th. 

    

One of the goals of our enforcement activity is to promote public safety and increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving.  This will be accomplished by providing a highly visible enforcement and publicity campaign, in order to deter intoxicated drivers from getting behind the wheel and driving.  Through these efforts, we also seek to reduce the number of injuries and deaths associated with collisions involving intoxicated drivers.

We would like to remind the public of the dangers associated with drinking and driving.  Celebrate during the holidays responsibly and do not drink and drive!  Help save a life; call 9-1-1 to report drunk drivers.

Arcadia Snow Fest 2014

News Release - Indoor Marijuana Cultivation Discovered from "See Something, Say Something" Tip

Incident:  Indoor Marijuana Cultivation; Case #14-5789

As a result of the Arcadia Police Department’s, “See Something, Say Something” program, an alert resident notified the Police Department of suspicious activity surrounding a residence in the 400 block of East Wistaria Avenue.  Arcadia Police Officers and Detectives conducted an investigation.  On Thursday, December 4, 2014, at about 3:00 PM, Detectives obtained and served a search warrant at the home for an illegal indoor marijuana cultivation. 

  

Once inside the residence, Arcadia Detectives searched the home and found the majority of the residence being used as a sophisticated, indoor marijuana grow operation.  Approximately 250 mature marijuana plants were being grown in bedrooms and in a converted garage.  The grow consisted of multiple rooms with lighting, ventilation, electrical wiring, irrigation and drying bins strewn throughout the residence.  It appeared the electrical set-up was bypassing the meter and also tapping directly into electrical service.  There was no evidence of this being a medical marijuana related grow and nobody was located inside the dwelling.   

  

This case is currently being investigated by Detectives from the Arcadia Police Department. Gold Line Testing to Begin Monday December 8, 2014

Over the next two weeks (December 8-December 19), the Foothill Gold Line will be undergoing initial train testing. During this period, a single train will be first pulled and then operated on its own power within the rail corridor between the cities of Arcadia and Duarte. This initial testing activity will test train clearances along the alignment from Arcadia through Duarte, as well as the Overhead Catenary System which powers the trains in Monrovia (east of California Ave) through the city of Duarte. 

Testing will impact the intersection crossings as the train approaches and crosses; however, the impact is expected to be minimal. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will manage vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the testing and the local police and fire departments have been informed of the activity. 

This is the first of many months of testing ahead, and an important milestone for the project. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Honoring Detective Steve Crawford on his Retirement

We say goodbye, thanks, and congrats to Detective Steve "Craw" Crawford today. Steve is retiring after 30 years of law enforcement service. He began his career at San Gabriel PD at the young age of 21. Steve lateralled to Arcadia PD in 1988 where he worked the remainder of his career. Steve has served as a Field Training Officer, a Traffic Officer, and two rotations as a Detective.

Detective Crawford is shown receiving his City plaque from Chief Bob Guthrie and handing off the "Short Timer" chain to Detective Steve Turner who is retiring in two weeks. The chain is a long standing APD tradition and is kept by the "next up" retiree.

We started a new tradition last year by having an informal Department wide luncheon for the retiree on their last work day. Members of APD, past and present, along with his family, joined us today to congratulate Steve.

Thank you Steve for a great career and your dedication to the City of Arcadia.

Holiday Food Collection to Benefit the Foothill Unity Center

We have placed a donation barrel in the lobby of the Department to collect Holiday Food on behalf of the Foothill Unity Center. Please pay us a visit and bring some much needed food to help out those in need in our area.

Requested food items include: stuffing, canned yams, corn bread mix, Jello-O, gravy, marshmallows, hot cereal, pinto beans, and rice.

Help us and the Foothill Unity Center make the holidays a little brighter!
